| | On Obama's inauguration:
As Tobi, one of our cellists, said the other night, what an amazing and rare event for the balance of power to be exchanged between people of such drastically opposing views without bloodshed. There are very few countries in the world that are lucky enough to experience this. Bush's team suddenly no longer occupying the White House? I can only imagine Obama's administration walking into an uninhabited White House, vacated recently by people who have bitterly opposed him, and will likely continue to work against his agenda. As the Obama team explores and establishes themselves in the empty rooms of their adversaries, I see no other possible reaction than to marvel at such an event happening. And whitehouse.gov now controlled and administered by team Obama, with a new face already showing how much has changed? I'm stunned by this process, and continue to love this country for the foundation we have that allows power to be transferred peacefully. Through the next several years (and forever after), we must remember that it is the constitution which is this foundation.
Personally, a selling point for Obama for me was that he has taught constitutional law at the university level. The President should always be an expert at constitutional law. Always. Not simply surrounded by constitutional law experts, but one him(her)self. Because in order to "uphold, protect, and defend the constitution of the United States," he must first know what it is. I feel hopeful that Obama's experience will be beneficial to the nation. |
